The energy absorption behavior of novel composite sandwich structures reinforced with trapezoidal latticed webs

Abstract This article proposed an innovative composite sandwich structure reinforced with trapezoidal latticed webs angles of 45°, 60° and 75°. Four specimens were conducted according to quasi-static compression methods investigate the compressive behavior novel structures. The experimental results indicated that specimen 45° showed most excellent energy absorption ability, which was about 2.5 times structures vertical webs. Compared traditional structure, elastic displacement ultimate load-bearing capacity increased by 624.1 439.8%, respectively. Numerical analysis carried out using a nonlinear explicit finite element (FE) software ANSYS/LS-DYNA. influence thickness face sheets, lattice foam density on capacity, initial stiffness analyzed. bumper device for bridge pier protection against ship collision simulated verify its performance. peak impact force anti-collision would be reduced 17.3%, time duration will prolonged 31.1%.
